About the ArtistArtist Statement | Artist Bio | Resume Artist statementStruggle is essential in life and painting. Time passes quickly in the studio as I try to solve each painting. The conflict shows up in my work and gives it an edge. The act of creating paintings is difficult, exciting, and highly satisfying. My work has always dwelled in the realm of realism because I am intrigued with the illusion of space and the recognition of specific objects. Lately I have been painting both landscapes and figures. Landscape requires attention to space, light, and plane, while the figure demands strict allegiance toward form and personality. The approach is different in each instance but in both the intent is to create a unique sight experience. Artist's BioTodd Orchard was born in Chicago Illinois, 1971. His parents moved west eventually settling in Bountiful, Utah. After High school Todd attended college at BYU, Idaho (then Rick's College), transferred to Utah State University, in Logan where he earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA) in 1995. Todd and his wife Lara moved to Salt Lake City where Todd worked as an intern For the Utah Arts Council, photographing the vast state collection of art. In 1997 Todd applied to Brigham Young University's Master of Fine Arts program, his acceptance letter came the day his first child was born. In 1998, Todd was with a group of students painting in Europe when his wife gave birth to their second child. As a result he was not popular among the females traveling in his company. Todd was teaching as a graduate student when he received his (MFA) degree from BYU in 2000. Their small family welcomed another member that October. Todd continued to teach classes at BYU, and started to teach for UVSC. Amid teaching, Todd worked in the studio, painting for commissions and upcoming shows, and completely many commissioned murals. In 2002 Todd and his family bought a home in American Fork, Utah, and organized a new studio in the garage (this one has air and heat!) In July of 2004 another small member joined the family. With 2 large shows and many mural projects, 2005 looks to be a good year. Todd Orchard has offered his services with a standard of excellence since 2000. His focus is high quality paintings, portraits, and murals at a fair price. Other events and accomplishments that have given the artist experience:
